A dad-of-four is taking on an incredible challenge to raise money for children with cancer. Andy McGhee, 44, plans to complete a grueling 3,572-mile ultra-duathlon over 25 days. His goal is to raise £20,000 for a charity that supports children battling cancer. In addition to the fundraising aspect, Andy will also break the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive ultra-duathlons.

Andy’s inspiration for this incredible undertaking came from a personal experience. In 2015, his then two-year-old son Jude had a near-fatal asthma attack. Andy spent a week by Jude’s side and witnessed the exceptional care provided by the dedicated NHS staff. This motivated him to begin his fundraising journey. Two years later, he ran seven back-to-back marathons to support a children’s cancer charity.

Reflecting on his motivation, Andy shared, “Having four children myself, I can’t imagine the pain of hearing that your child has cancer. Children with Cancer UK does an incredible job of supporting these children and their families during this difficult time. I believe it’s a cause worth fighting for, which is why I chose this monumental challenge.”

To prepare for the ultra-duathlon, Andy has been training for approximately 20 hours per week. However, he admits that it’s nearly impossible to completely train for such a strenuous event. Nevertheless, he remains determined and committed to pushing his limits.

Starting on September 7, Andy will embark on an exciting journey that will take him from Hamble, through Marchwood and the New Forest, and back again. Throughout his endeavor, he will have the support of his wife, Carly, and their children Lily, Bonnie, Jude, and Harrison.

Maintaining his energy levels is crucial during this feat, and Andy plans to consume a whopping 12,500 daily calories. In between running and cycling, he will snack on peanut butter and jam sandwiches every half hour and use performance gels for an extra boost. Additionally, he will enjoy high-calorie meals to replenish his energy.
