Melissa Ainslie

Melissa Ainslie, a 14-year-old passionate bowler, has been given the opportunity to represent Scotland at the European Youth Championships in France this April. However, the cost of the nine-day trip, which amounted to around £2,000, posed a significant challenge for Melissa’s parents, Kelly and Allyn. Fortunately, the local community stepped in and generously donated enough money to make Melissa’s dream a reality.

Melissa, who already boasts an impressive collection of 15 trophies, expressed her gratitude for the support she received. She said, “I’m really happy that everyone tried to help, it’s incredible. I’m going for my gran and the people who helped me to get there. I hope there might be more opportunities to go around the world. I would like to do it professionally when I’m older and go into coaching.”

To prepare for the competition, Melissa dedicates three hours a week to training at Deer Park Country Club in Livingston, West Lothian. This commitment is even more admirable considering the 19-month hiatus Melissa endured due to lockdown restrictions. Her love for the sport was inspired by her late grandmother, Anne Ainslie, who encouraged her to join a league and nurtured her competitive spirit.
