A Long-Awaited Reunion

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents Rifit Akram and Barry Ridge were unable to immediately meet their precious babies. Two agonizing days passed before they laid eyes on Zaki and Malika, with wires surrounding them in incubators. Rifit reminisced, “When we were able to see them, I just had to hold their hand through the incubator.”

Malika quickly recovered, going off oxygen within a week. Zaki, on the other hand, faced additional health challenges, including a high heart rate and requiring a blood transfusion.
