Archaeologists restoring a statue from 1887 were amazed when they stumbled upon an unexpected treasure hidden at its base – a sealed box. This exciting discovery immediately captured the attention of experts and archaeologist Kate Ridgway took the lead in unveiling its contents. To preserve the moment, the entire process of unsealing the box was filmed.

Initially, doubts arose regarding the box’s contents due to years of exposure to moisture. Despite this, the box was opened with great care, revealing remarkably preserved artifacts from the 19th century. Among these treasures were minutes of meetings from a local Masonic lodge, a Masonic symbol, copies of newspapers from that era, and even bullets.

However, it was the stack of hermetically sealed documents that generated the most excitement. Unfortunately, water had penetrated this particular package, and restoring the 130-year-old records will require months of meticulous research and restoration work.

At present, historians have chosen not to disclose the contents of the documents, possibly due to the sensitivity of the information they contain. The fact that the box was hidden beneath a statue of a general associated with the Confederacy adds another layer of intrigue.
