Every bride dreams of a perfect wedding day. From the stunning dress to the picturesque venue, there are endless details to consider. But what happens when a bride’s vision clashes with the expectations of her guests? This is precisely the predicament one bride found herself in, as she sought to ensure her wedding day went off without a hitch. However, her strict rules sparked controversy, leaving many to question where the line should be drawn.

The bride, seeking advice and validation, turned to Reddit’s popular subreddit ‘AITAH’ (Am I The Asshole) to share her situation with fellow internet users. She began by clarifying that her fiance played an equal role in formulating these rules and that they were both enthusiastic about them.

One of the rules was an “unplugged ceremony,” where guests were kindly asked to refrain from using their phones. While many understood the rationale behind this during the ceremony itself, some felt the requests extended too far, particularly with regards to not using phones during dinner. Voices emerged, arguing that parents needed to be accessible to their children left at home. The bride, however, remained steadfast, defending the rule as crucial to maintaining an ambiance of serenity and focus.

Another contentious rule revolved around a strict color scheme and dress code. The couple requested that guests dressed entirely in black, with women wearing dresses and men adorning tuxedos. Intransigent on this point, they held no exception for family members who may have had valid reasons for alternative attire, such as grieving or body dysmorphia. As tensions grew, bridesmaids threatened to withdraw and guests canceled their attendance last minute.

The bride’s plan to have her maid of honor’s daughter as the flower girl also proved to be a point of contention. The bride, concerned about potential distractions during the ceremony, requested that the young girl be left with a babysitter at a hotel. However, the maid of honor disagreed and made arrangements for her daughter to be in the care of her grandmother, despite the venue being a considerable four-hour drive away.

Though the bride emphasized her and her fiance’s shared responsibility for these rules and their deep enthusiasm, many Redditors still felt their demands crossed the line into unreasonable territory. They labeled the couple as the “assholes” in this situation, asserting that while couples deserve the agency to plan their weddings as they wish, guests also retain the right to decline participation if they disagree with the established guidelines.
