Selena Gomez addresses weight gain: ‘I’m not a model’

According to Selena Gomez, she wants critics to know that she is not a model and “never will be”. In a recent TikTok live, the entertainer addressed the scrutiny surrounding her appearance and revealed that her lupus medication has caused her weight to fluctuate significantly.

Gomez explained that when she is taking her medication, she tends to retain water weight, which is a normal side effect. However, when she is off the medication, she tends to lose weight. Despite the challenges it presents, Gomez wants to encourage others who may be experiencing similar struggles.

“I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and no one knows the real story,” she shared in a video posted on Twitter.

Having faced the toll it takes on her mental health, Gomez tries to focus on the bigger picture – her overall well-being. She wants people to know that they are beautiful and wonderful, even on the days when they may feel down.

“I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me,” she emphasized.

Gomez made it clear that she is not a model and has no aspirations to be one. She wants the world to understand that true beauty comes from within.

I just want people to know that you’re beautiful, and you’re wonderful,” Gomez told her fans.

Despite the naysayers, Gomez concluded her video with a special message to her fans – and haters.

“I love you guys and thanks for supporting me and understanding,” she said. “And if not, go away, because honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for their body or anything.”

Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, in 2014. The disease often leads to swelling, fatigue, and joint pain. In her Apple TV+ documentary, “My Mind & Me,” Gomez opened up about the painful reality of living with lupus, revealing that the intensity of her symptoms had worsened.

“Now it just hurts. Like, in the morning when I wake up, I immediately start crying because it hurts, everything,” she tearfully expressed in the emotional documentary.

To manage the excruciating pain, Gomez had to undergo treatment with an intravenous drug called Rituxan, which she had previously tried. While it can be challenging, she remains determined to prioritize her health and well-being.

“The Rituxan was really hard to do last time,” Gomez explained. “It’s about four hours, five hours. It’s really hard on your system at first, but it’s okay.”
