Rosalynn Carter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter on Sunday, November 19, 2023. At the age of 96, Mrs. Carter peacefully passed away with her family by her side at her home in Plains, Georgia.

Rosalynn Carter was not only the devoted wife of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, but also a passionate advocate for mental health, caregiving, and women’s rights. Married for an incredible 77 years, Rosalynn and President Carter were a true partnership in life.

President Carter expressed his love and admiration for his wife, saying, “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

Mrs. Carter’s legacy lives on through her children – Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy – as well as her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Though the family mourns the loss of a beloved grandmother and mother, they take solace in the impact she made on the world.

Chip Carter, her son, spoke of his mother’s extraordinary qualities, saying, “Besides being a loving mother and extraordinary First Lady, my mother was a great humanitarian in her own right. Her life of service and compassion was an example for all Americans. She will be sorely missed not only by our family but by the many people who have better mental health care and access to resources for caregiving today.”

Rosalynn Carter’s dedication to mental health, caregiving, and women’s rights has left a lasting impact on countless lives. Her advocacy and compassion continue to inspire and her legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
