When you’re on a trip, hotels become your home away from home. Naturally, you expect them to be clean and perfect. And the free shampoo and shower gel bottles provided are usually a nice bonus. However, a TikTok hotel manager has come forward with an important warning: don’t use those complimentary bottles!

In a TikTok video, the “Travelling Hotel Manager” strongly advises against using the hotel’s free toiletries. The reason? It’s quite shocking and dangerous. She starts the video by introducing herself, then takes us to the hotel bathroom. There, she shows us full-sized bottles of body wash, conditioner, and shampoo. And here’s the scary part: she demonstrates how anyone can easily unscrew the pump lids of these bottles.

This means that previous guests could have filled those bottles with anything they wanted, like bleach or hair color. So trusting these bottles could put your health at risk. The hotel manager suggests bringing your own shampoo and shower gel instead. And if you forget, at least call reception and ask for a new set. Even the small ones will do the trick. Many of her viewers were grateful for this advice.

One viewer even shared her unfortunate experience: “Yeah. I’m still suffering from contact dermatitis after forgetting my products and using those.” However, some argued that most hotels use secure, disposable bottles that are changed with every new guest. But the issue of unsanitary practices in hotels doesn’t end here.

In 2017, Inside Edition conducted a study on hotel cleanliness. They marked the toilet rim and shower floor with easily washable stains that were only visible under UV light. To their horror, when they checked into the same room the following day, they found the marks still present. This raises concerns about the overall cleanliness of hotel rooms.

So always be cautious when you’re staying in a hotel and think twice before using those complimentary bottles. Safety and cleanliness should be your top priorities.
