Students Do 'Uptown Funk' Routine

Have you ever heard the saying “you’re only as old as you feel”? Well, let me introduce you to Shirley Clements, a 63-year-old dance teacher who proves this saying to be true. Despite her age, Shirley is far from feeling old, as you can see in this amazing video.

Shirley was on the verge of retiring in 2015 after many years of teaching. But retirement didn’t seem appealing when she absolutely loved her job. So, she had a decision to make – retire to a rocking chair or keep rocking the dance floor. Thankfully, she chose the latter. She decided to join her students in the annual hip-hop routine competition that she had started 19 years ago.

We’ve all come across videos of older people dancing and being absolutely amazing. However, when you watch Shirley’s performance, you’ll understand why she stands out amongst the best. As the song “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars begins, the younger dancers take the floor, getting ready for their hip-hop routine. And then, there she is, Shirley, joining them. The audience is left in awe.

At 60 years old, Shirley effortlessly executes every move with grace and precision, making her look as if she’s 20. You can clearly see why her students are so enthusiastic about their craft. After about a minute, the girls step back, allowing the boys to take the spotlight, all with the guidance of their beloved teacher. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, Shirley surprises everyone by doing a handstand!

Most people mark their retirement with a watch and a party, but for Shirley, that wasn’t enough. She wanted to leave her teaching career with a bang, and boy, did she succeed! We are fortunate to witness this incredible moment through this amazing video.
