When we think about people in the military, we often have a great deal of respect for the choice they make to serve their country. Military personnel often have to endure long periods of separation from their loved ones, without receiving adequate compensation for their hard work. The life of a military man or woman can be incredibly challenging, filled with disappointments. In this particular story, a Marine stationed in Afghanistan had to face the heartbreak of receiving a “Dear John” letter from his girlfriend back home. However, his response to this betrayal is sure to leave you chuckling.

The letter reads as follows:

“Dear Ricky,
I can no longer continue our relationship. The distance between us is just too great. I must admit that I have cheated on you twice since you’ve been gone, and it’s not fair to either of us.
I’m sorry. Please return the picture of me that I sent to you.
Love, Becky”

Naturally, the Marine felt hurt and betrayed by this revelation. Seeking a way to find some solace and perhaps a touch of revenge, he turned to his fellow Marines for support. He asked them if they could spare any snapshots of their girlfriends, sisters, ex-girlfriends, aunts, cousins, and any other pretty ladies they knew.

In addition to Becky’s picture, Ricky amassed a collection of 57 other photographs from his buddies. He then gathered all the photos and sent them back to Becky with the following note:

“Dear Becky,
I’m so sorry, but I can’t quite remember who you are. Please take your picture from the pile and send the rest back to me.
Ricky”

The Marine’s witty and clever response serves as a lighthearted way of dealing with the pain caused by his girlfriend’s infidelity. It also gives us a reminder that sometimes, even in difficult situations, a dash of humor can help us heal and move forward.
