McDonald's Sign

McDonald’s, the popular fast-food chain known for its burgers and chicken products, has faced backlash from locals after erecting a sign for their “McCrispy” menu item next to a sign for a local crematorium. Many people found this combination tasteless and inappropriate, given that the crematorium burns human bodies.

The offensive sign was placed on roadway A39 in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It was located near a bus stop across from the Penmount Crematorium in Truro, Cornwall. Angry residents criticized McDonald’s for being insensitive by placing their advertisement right next to a sign for a British crematorium.

A woman, whose mother-in-law was cremated at the mentioned establishment, took to social media to express her outrage. She highlighted that while she understood the humor behind it, the placement of the sign could be distressing for grieving family members visiting the crematorium for a loved one’s funeral and cremation.

Not everyone found the advertisement offensive, and some found it amusing. However, the controversy raised concerns among motorists in the area and spread online. In response to the backlash, McDonald’s released a statement confirming that they would be removing the “McCrispy” sign near the crematorium.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s expressed their unawareness of the road sign’s placement but acknowledged the concerns raised and took immediate action to address the issue. Cornwall Council, which manages the crematorium and owns the bus shelter, was unavailable for comment regarding the controversial sign.

Once the McDonald’s sign is taken down, some locals speculate that Burger King might replace it with an advertisement for their flame-grilled Whopper. Given that the Whopper is cooked using a blazing flame, this could potentially ignite further controversy.

The question remains: Do you find the McDonald’s advertisement near the crematorium offensive?
