A heartwarming story from Canada showcases the love and acceptance of parents towards their child’s gender identity. Ella Scott, now eight years old, recently celebrated her transition from living as a boy to embracing her true identity as a girl.
At just six years old, Ella bravely opened up to her parents, Nikki and Graham, about not feeling like a boy. Initially thinking it was a phase, Nikki and Graham soon realized that their child was expressing her true self. Instead of discouraging her, they wholeheartedly supported her decision.
Nikki recalls, “With Ella, it’s like she always knew, but we just didn’t. We noticed her differences as she preferred playing with girls and enjoyed Frozen toys. Unlike her brothers, Ella never wanted to engage in rough play.”
The journey of Ella’s transition began at the age of six when she started wearing girls’ clothes, like skirts and dresses. Nikki and Graham, unsure of the right approach, showed Ella books about transgender people to help her understand her identity. Eventually, she found her own words and said, “I’m not a boy. I don’t feel like this inside.”
Ella’s parents had concerns about how society would treat their daughter and whether she would face bullying. However, their primary focus was on her happiness and allowing her to live as her authentic self. To show their unwavering support, Nikki and Graham decided to throw a gender reveal party for Ella.
The celebration was filled with love and happiness as friends and family joined in. Graham, in his expression of support, even made a cake with pink icing to symbolize Ella’s transition.
“We just wanted her to feel celebrated and loved. She is our daughter, and we love her no matter what,” shared Nikki. Graham added, “We were worried initially, but we realized this was not a phase. Our main concern is her happiness and allowing her to live the life she desires.”
