Known for its outrageous guests and heated confrontations, the show ran for an impressive 27 years. Jerry invited individuals from all walks of life, putting them in the spotlight of zany and often dramatic situations. While the cause of death has not been confirmed, his family stated that Jerry was battling a “brief illness.” Sources have revealed that Jerry had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago and peacefully passed away in his home in the Chicago area.
Before his television career took off, Jerry had a background in politics. He ran for the United States Congress in 1970, albeit unsuccessfully. However, in 1971, he was elected to Cincinnati’s City Council, and later served as the city’s mayor for one term starting in 1977.
Although the show initially focused on politics when it debuted in 1991, it soon pivoted to showcase wild and outrageous situations. “The Jerry Springer Show” became a sensation, surpassing the ratings of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in various cities. The show finally came to an end in 2018 after entertaining audiences for almost three decades.
Jerry’s last television appearance was on “The Masked Singer,” where he surprised viewers with his rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.”
