On Sunday afternoon, the highly acclaimed actress Park Soo Ryun tragically fell down a flight of stairs while in South Korea. Sadly, it has been confirmed that Ryun has succumbed to her injuries. Best known for her role in the beloved Disney+ K-drama Snowdrop, the 29-year-old actress was rushed to the emergency room after the incident. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, she was pronounced brain dead as a result of the fall.
In a heartfelt gesture, Park Soo Ryun’s family has decided to donate her organs to someone in need. They find comfort in the knowledge that her giving heart will continue to beat inside another person. Speaking to Soompi, Ryun’s mother said, “Only her brain is unconscious, and her heart is still beating. There must be someone who desperately needs [organs]. As her mother and father, we will be able to live comforted [by the thought that her heart] has gone to someone and is beating.”
Following her passing, Ryun’s last rites took place on Monday, with a wake held at Suwon Hospital of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center in Jangan-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, according to a Daily Mail article.
Park Soo Ryun first gained international recognition with her performance in the 2018 musical Il Tenore, alongside acclaimed Asian actors Lee Sang-yi and Jeon Mi-do. In addition to her work with Disney+, Ryun showcased her talent in various musicals and plays, including The Cellar, Othello, and The Day We Were In Love.
On the small screen, Ryun made her television debut in 2021 with the hit series Snowdrop, where she portrayed a university student in the 1980s. The show also featured popular Blackpink singer Jisoo and actor Jung Hae-in.
Unfortunately, Ryun’s tragic accident is not the only loss suffered by the Snowdrop cast. Another actress from the series, Kim Mi-soo, passed away in January 2022 at the age of twenty-nine. Mi-soo played a history student alongside Ryun and their fellow cast members. The cause of her death remains undisclosed, and it was deeply saddening news at the time.
