A British man who raped a woman in her own home while she slept has been sentenced to five years and four months in prison. But his punishment didn’t end there. As it was revealed in court, the 27-year-old offender may have contracted HIV, the virus responsible for AIDS, during the unwanted sexual encounter.

Rapist in Court

The victim, who was already ill at the time of the assault, had HIV. Despite this, the rapist decided to proceed without using a condom. When he learned that he might now be HIV positive, reports indicate that he collapsed in court, overwhelmed with desperation and depression.

In an attempt to avoid facing prison time, the convicted rapist claimed that he couldn’t be held accountable for the attack due to his heavy alcohol consumption that night. He also admitted to using drugs like cocaine and ecstasy throughout the evening. Although he admitted that he can’t recall much about the incident, he acknowledged the truth of his victim’s story and did not deny the rape; he simply pleaded intoxication.

Police revealed that the rapist had targeted his victim. He entered her home without permission and assaulted her while she slept. Although the victim had taken a sleeping pill to ensure a good night’s rest, she woke up to find the assailant taking advantage of her without her consent.

Despite the defense’s argument that the rapist was too intoxicated to remember the events of that night, he acknowledged to his attorney that the victim was telling the truth. According to his attorney, the rapist said, “She would not lie. If she says I have done it, I have done it.”

The sentencing judge, Mark Brown, regarded the offense as “dreadful” and imposed a five-year and four-month prison term, in addition to lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Although the rapist had previous convictions, this was the first time he faced charges for a sex offense. His attorney stated that he is genuinely remorseful and puzzled by his own actions.

In the courtroom, it was revealed that the rapist had a troubled history. He began using cannabis at the age of nine and started drinking alcohol by eleven. By thirteen, he was addicted to cocaine and ecstasy.

As the rapist awaits the results of an HIV test, his attorney emphasizes that this outcome is the consequence of his own actions. “If he hadn’t committed this offense, he wouldn’t have found himself in this position,” she said.
