Mom of Rare Twins with Down Syndrome Shuts Down Critics with Heartwarming Photo

Did you know that the chances of giving birth to twins have increased by 72 percent since 1980? Twins are still pretty rare, occurring in about 33 out of every 1,000 births. And what are the chances of having identical twins? Approximately every three or four out of every 1,000 births are identical twins, making them relatively rare.

A Beautiful Surprise

When 23-year-old Savannah Combs found out she was pregnant with twins, she was thrilled. But there was another surprise waiting for her – both of her babies had Down syndrome. It was an emotional moment for Savannah and her husband, Justin Ackerman. They knew that some people might judge them and their babies because of their condition. But to Savannah, her twins were incredibly precious.

“It’s very rare what they have, but they’ve been my little gems,” she shared.

Choosing Love and Hope

Savannah decided to share her post-pregnancy journey with her daughters Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman on TikTok. The family quickly gained a following, and Savannah’s videos allowed her to spread a message of love and hope. In one of her videos, Savannah revealed that she was advised to abort her babies due to their condition. However, she made the courageous decision to give them a fighting chance.

“Every prenatal appointment they were alive was a blessing to me,” Savannah explained.

Overcoming Obstacles

When Savannah learned that both her daughters had Down syndrome, her husband was away at boot camp. The twins arrived two months before their due date, so they had to spend several weeks in the NICU before coming home. Despite their rare condition, Savannah emphasized that her girls are just like any other children.

“They have feelings. They have a beating heart. They know how to talk. They know how to do things you do. They will get there,” she said. “Like I said, it may be a step behind, but they’re going to do it. I’ve learned these kids are feisty little things and happy little things.”

Spreading Love and Defying Critics

As Kennadi and Mckenli continue to reach their milestones, Savannah shares their adorable updates on TikTok. However, there are some people who feel the need to criticize Savannah and her family. In response to insensitive comments, Savannah had the perfect answer.

“I said, ‘Good thing they weren’t born to you and were born to me.’ God knew what he was doing by giving these babies to the right parents who would love them regardless,” she shared.

These beautiful girls deserve all the love and respect in the world. By sharing their heartwarming story, we can spread awareness and acceptance for children with Down syndrome. Let’s celebrate their uniqueness and show the world that they are just as precious and loving as anyone else.
