Married at First Sight star Andrew Jury has died aged 33

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Jury, a former contestant on New Zealand’s edition of Married at First Sight. Andrew was just 33 years old.

Andrew rose to fame as one of the stars of the show’s first season in 2017 when he was 26 years old. During his time on the show, he was paired with Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, but their relationship faced constant challenges, leading them to ultimately decide to separate.

The news of Andrew’s death was shared on Instagram by his fellow Married at First Sight contestants, Brett and Angel Renall, as well as Benjamin Blackwell. In a joint statement, they expressed their grief and shared fond memories of their time together on the show.

Despite his struggles, Andrew was known for his friendly nature and outgoing personality during their shared experience on the show. The entire cast sends their deepest condolences and love to Andrew’s family during this difficult time.

Fellow contestant Haydn Daniels expressed shock at Andrew’s passing, stating that everyone from their series is deeply saddened. Daniels also mentioned that he had been in touch with Andrew regularly, and things seemed to be improving for him.

Daniels opened up about the challenges participants face after appearing on reality TV shows like Married at First Sight. He emphasized the importance of post-show support and expressed his hope that the public would be kinder and more understanding, recognizing that what they see on TV is not the whole story.

It is crucial to address the duty of care towards contestants and provide comprehensive support throughout their reality TV journey and beyond. There must be ongoing conversations and improvements in this regard.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the production company behind MAFS NZ, emphasized that all contributors have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, from pre-screening to production and even after the broadcast.
