A devastating incident unfolded at Chabahar Konarak airport in southern Iran, resulting in the tragic loss of a mechanic’s life. Abolfazl Amiri was performing a routine maintenance check on a Boeing 737-500 operated by Varesh Airline when the unimaginable occurred.
As Amiri was retrieving a tool near the aircraft, he was tragically pulled into the running engine. The engine caught fire shortly thereafter, despite efforts by the airport fire brigade. Sadly, Amiri’s remains were recovered at the scene.
This heartbreaking incident has prompted an investigation by the Iranian aviation authority to determine the cause of the accident.
A Chilling Reminder
This incident brings to mind a similar tragedy that occurred at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport just a few months ago. A person lost their life after climbing into the engine of a KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190 aircraft. Passengers and crew on board the KLM flight witnessed this distressing incident during the plane’s taxiing phase. Despite the swift response from emergency services, the individual could not be saved.
KLM expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “Today there was a horrible incident at Schiphol in which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine. Sadly, the person has died.” Authorities later revealed that this was a case of intentional suicide.
