A shocking incident unfolded when two off-duty deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Lucas and Nicole Shoffner, were involved in a terrible accident. As they were repairing a dirt bike by the roadside, they were struck by a vehicle driven by Raymond Surber, a deputy from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these brave deputies as they fight to recover from this devastating incident.

Lucas Shoffner, in an act of true heroism, saved Nicole’s life by pushing her out of harm’s way before the vehicle hit them. This courageous act emphasizes the remarkable character of Lucas, who is described as “kind, loyal, funny, and resilient.” Matt Fagiana, a former Loudon County sergeant, expressed his support by saying, “You got this Lucas, and we are behind you and Nicole every step of the way.”

Currently, Lucas remains in the Transplant Intensive Care Unit at UT Medical Center, receiving specialized care for his serious head injuries. He is in a medically induced coma, and his condition is being closely monitored. The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, where Lucas previously served, stands firmly by his side, declaring, “Lucas, everyone at LCSO is pulling for you!”

Despite the challenging circumstances, there is a glimmer of hope. Nicole recently shared an update on Instagram, announcing that Lucas is leaving the intensive care unit after 40 days. This is a significant milestone on their journey towards healing. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and resilience displayed by law enforcement officers.

The road to recovery may be long and arduous, but with the outpouring of love and support from their colleagues, friends, and community, Lucas and Nicole can find strength in the knowledge that they are not alone. Let us continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they embark upon this chapter of healing.
