The courage and quick thinking of two dance class teachers in Southport have been praised as they helped save the lives of up to 16 children during a Taylor Swift-themed workshop. Leanne Lucas, 35, a primary school supply teacher turned children’s yoga instructor, and her co-organizer, Heidi Barlow, also 35, displayed incredible bravery during the terrifying assault that took place at Hart Space Studios on July 29.

Unfortunately, this tragic incident resulted in the deaths of three children and left five others critically injured. Both teachers themselves sustained injuries while trying to protect the children. Leanne Lucas is currently in the hospital, fighting for her life after sustaining stab wounds inflicted by the attacker, who gained access through an unlocked door due to the hot weather.

The assault occurred while 25 children, between the ages of six and eleven, were participating in the yoga and bracelet-making workshop. Thanks to the heroic actions of Lucas and Barlow, many lives were saved. However, nine children had to be hospitalized, with five of them still in critical condition. Sadly, one of the hospitalized children has succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll to three.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy of Merseyside Police commended the teachers for their bravery, emphasizing that they put themselves in harm’s way to protect the innocent children. The local community is in mourning, and Southport MP Patrick Hurley expressed the deep shock and grief that has affected the entire town.

In light of this tragic event, the local community has rallied together to provide support and condolences to the affected families. The overwhelming response has even led to a JustGiving page set up by Taylor Swift fans, which has already raised more than £60,000 to assist the families with funeral expenses and other necessary support.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and strength in times of darkness. The Southport community will continue to stand together, honoring the memory of the victims and recognizing the bravery of the teachers who risked their lives to protect the children.
