BREAKING NEWS: Nelly’s Legal Team Hits Back at Drug Possession Claims
Rapper Nelly’s legal team has vehemently denied claims that he was found in possession of ecstasy during his recent arrest. According to Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, the arrest was made on an outstanding warrant for a “No Proof of Insurance” charge, not for drug possession.
Speaking to Us Weekly, Rosenblum stated that Nelly was targeted by an overzealous officer who unnecessarily ran a background check for warrants. He further emphasized that Nelly had won several jackpots at a casino prior to the incident and had never before been required to undergo a background check for his winnings.
The lawyer also revealed that Nelly, who frequently travels internationally, is regularly asked to provide proof of no warrants, including FBI checks, and has always complied without any issues. Rosenblum expressed confidence that the case against Nelly would go nowhere and called for an inquiry into the officer’s conduct.
Nelly, 49, was arrested at a St. Louis casino in the early morning hours of August 7 on an old traffic charge for failure to appear in court. However, the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that there was no evidence of criminal activity on his behalf.
Nelly’s arrest comes just a few months after news of his secret wedding to singer Ashanti in December 2023. The couple, who had an on-and-off relationship from 2003 to 2013, rekindled their romance in April 2023.
In an interview on the “Boss Moves With Rasheeda” podcast, Nelly explained that their reconciliation surprised both of them and wasn’t planned. He attributed the difficulties in their previous relationship to the interference of others and the pressures of their respective careers.
Despite the challenges, Nelly and Ashanti are taking things slow and enjoying their time together. An insider revealed that Ashanti never imagined getting back together with Nelly a few years ago but is now in a happy place with him.
