An Adventurous Spirit Leads to a Unique Journey

Jo Ann Ussery is a fascinating individual known for her remarkable achievement of turning a Boeing 727 airliner into a one-of-a-kind residence. Her story is a testament to human ingenuity and the power to turn dreams into reality.

Jo Ann’s love for adventure and aircraft sparked a journey that captured the world’s interest. In the early 2000s, she purchased a defunct Boeing 727 plane with the intention of transforming it into a living space instead of letting it go to waste.

A Passionate Vision Becomes a Reality

Undeterred by the challenges ahead, Jo Ann meticulously designed and restored the plane’s interior. She transformed the cabins into a warm and unique home, showcasing her unwavering dedication to her vision.

Despite the obstacles she faced, Jo Ann’s perseverance paid off. Today, her Boeing 727 residence stands as a testament to her singular vision. Set amidst the beauty of the woods, this extraordinary home has garnered international attention and praise.

Ingenuity and the Power of Dreams

Jo Ann Ussery’s story represents the incredible ingenuity and ability to think outside the box when it comes to finding unique housing solutions. Her journey is an inspiration to anyone with a desire or passion, reminding us that the sky is truly the limit. With devotion and ingenuity, aspirations can be turned into reality.

A Journey Born Out of Adversity

Jo Ann’s housing adventure began in 1993 when her home in Benoit, Mississippi was destroyed. As a widow with limited funds and two children to care for, finding a new place to live was a daunting task.

Initially considering buying a trailer, Jo Ann soon realized it wouldn’t accommodate her large family. It was then that her in-law, Bob, an air traffic controller, suggested a unique idea – living on a plane.

Intrigued by the concept, Jo Ann went to see a disassembled Boeing 727. It was love at first sight, and she purchased it for just $2,000, including shipping.

Affectionately naming her new home "Little Trump" after learning that Donald Trump also owned a private Boeing 727, Jo Ann began the challenging task of transforming it into a functional living space. With a budget of less than $30,000, she embarked on this extraordinary project.

From Plane to Home

To ensure stability during the interior renovations, Jo Ann positioned the plane on her property with its nose pointing out over a lake. The tail was securely anchored with concrete.

With approximately 1,500 square feet of interior space, Jo Ann wasted no time revamping the airplane. Even though the windows couldn’t be opened, she took advantage of the air conditioning and made it inconsequential.

While major renovations were completed, Jo Ann focused on improving the comfort and aesthetics of her unique home. She created three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and even a laundry facility within the plane.

One of the most impressive transformations was the cockpit, which Jo Ann turned into a luxurious master bathroom with a soaking tub. The layout was designed to give users a sense of floating while enjoying the breathtaking view of the lake.

An Accomplishment Fueled by Determination

Remarkably, Jo Ann completed the entire renovation herself. From 1995 to 1999, she happily lived aboard her converted plane. Eventually, she decided to transform it into a public museum, but unfortunately, during the relocation process, the plane slipped off the carriage and disintegrated. Despite this setback, Jo Ann’s ingenuity and determination have left an indelible mark on the world of unique housing.

Jo Ann Ussery’s story is a reminder that with passion and perseverance, even the most extraordinary dreams can be realized. Her journey serves as an inspiration to all and showcases the true power of human ingenuity.
