I’m reaching out to you today to ask for your support for a very special person who needs our help. Mary Lou Retton, the incredible American icon, is currently fighting for her life in the ICU. If you remember the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, you may have witnessed Retton’s historic performance as a gymnast for Team USA.

Retton captivated the world with her extraordinary vault and floor routines, earning perfect 10s and securing the gold medal over Romania’s Ecaterina Szabo. Her accomplishments didn’t stop there – she was recognized as Sports Illustrated’s Sportswoman of the Year and even graced the cover of the Wheaties box.

However, Mary Lou Retton’s journey has taken a turn for the worse. Her daughter, McKenna Kelley, recently shared on her Instagram Story that her mother is now “fighting for her life in the ICU.” Kelley revealed that Retton is battling a very rare form of pneumonia, which has left her unable to breathe on her own. She has been in the ICU for over a week now, and the medical expenses are mounting.

In this difficult time, McKenna Kelley has created a fund and humbly asks for assistance to cover the hospital bills. She invites everyone to join in prayer for her mother’s recovery and, if possible, to contribute financially.

Mary Lou Retton retired from gymnastics in 1986 but continued to leave a lasting impact in the entertainment industry. She has made appearances as a guest in popular shows like Glee and Baywatch. She even competed in season 27 of Dancing With the Stars. Her contributions to the gymnastics world were honored with her induction into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

We kindly request you to keep Mary Lou Retton and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. Every gesture of support counts. As a community at Mamas Uncut, we strive to empower moms and provide a safe space for knowledge and understanding. Together, we can rally behind one of America’s beloved icons and offer her the strength she needs.
