There are certain emergency calls that have a profound impact on the lives of our brave firefighters. But for Marc Hadden, a fireman with a heart of gold, one call in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, would forever change the course of his own life.

In 2011, Hadden responded to a distress call about a woman experiencing excruciating stomach pain. Little did he know that he was about to play a significant role in not just saving a life, but also becoming a parent.

As it turned out, the woman was in labor and there was no time to rush her to the hospital. Hadden and his team sprang into action, providing oxygen, hooking her up to IVs, and ferrying her to the ambulance. But before they could even leave, a surprising announcement came: the baby was coming, right then and there.

With no other option, Hadden assisted in the incredible delivery of the newborn in the back of the ambulance. The baby needed immediate medical attention, so Hadden swiftly took the little one to a nearby hospital.

Two days later, Hadden couldn’t shake off his concern for the child he helped deliver. Learning that the baby’s mother was homeless didn’t faze him – if anything, it strengthened his determination to give her a better future.

Coincidentally, Hadden and his wife were in the process of trying to start their own family. The opportunity to adopt a baby seemed like a sign from the universe, and without hesitation, they made the life-changing decision to welcome the newborn into their home.

Grace, lovingly known as Gracie, became the answer to all the prayers Hadden had been whispering. In the Hadden household, there are now four family members who share an unbreakable bond. Gracie’s brothers and sister adore her just as much as she adores them. Hadden describes their connection as “tighter than thieves.”

Gracie knows her incredible story. She proudly shares that her adoptive father was the one who delivered her in an ambulance. Her story is a testament to the fact that even the smallest moments have the power to transform lives.
