Pickle attended the wedding of the Carmichaels as ring bearer

Imagine being woken up in the middle of the night by your furry best friend licking your face. That’s exactly what happened to Kirsten Carmichael, a 36-year-old woman from York, whose life was saved by her beloved cockapoo named Pickle.

But this was no ordinary wake-up call. Pickle was trying to warn Kirsten and her partner about the dangerous, toxic smoke that was rapidly filling their home. Thanks to Pickle’s quick thinking, the couple was able to escape the house just in time.

Kirsten suffers from Ménière’s disease, which has left her completely deaf. In 2018, she adopted Pickle, a trained hearing dog who has become her soul mate and guardian angel. On that fateful night, Pickle sensed the danger and frantically licked and nudged Kirsten until she woke up.

Realizing that something was wrong, Kirsten followed Pickle’s lead and investigated the source of the commotion. As she peered through the peephole, she saw smoke billowing out of their neighbor’s house. Panic set in, but Pickle’s calming presence helped Kirsten stay composed.

Pickle, a cockapoo, woke Kirsten Carmichael to tell here there was a fire

She immediately woke up her partner, Matt, and together they called the fire brigade. Thanks to Pickle’s intuition and their quick actions, not only were they able to save themselves, but they also alerted their neighbors who were able to evacuate safely.

By the time they safely exited their home, it was filled with toxic smoke. They owe their lives to Pickle, who courageously protected them from harm.

Pickle’s bravery has not gone unnoticed. She has been named as a finalist in the Amplifon Awards For Brave Britons 2021, an incredible honor that recognizes her heroism. Pickle and her proud owners will attend the virtual awards presentation on Tuesday, October 5.

In addition to her life-saving actions, Pickle played a special role in Kirsten and Matt’s wedding. She walked down the aisle as the ring bearer, symbolizing the incredible bond between humans and animals.

Reflecting on her journey, Kirsten says that having Pickle by her side has completely transformed her life. Despite the challenges she faces due to her disability, she feels more positive and confident knowing that Pickle is there to support her.

Pickle’s heroism not only saved their lives but also brought Kirsten and Matt closer together. They tied the knot shortly after the fire and are now eagerly expecting their first child. Kirsten credits Pickle for giving them hope, love, and the courage to embrace this new chapter in their lives.

Pickle truly is a hero, a furry guardian angel who has forever changed the lives of Kirsten and Matt. Her unwavering loyalty and love serve as a reminder that the bond between humans and animals can be a force of immeasurable strength.
