Zoey with owner Michelle

Imagine the heartbreak of losing your beloved dog. It’s a feeling no pet owner wants to experience. That’s why the story of Zoey, a dog who went missing for 12 long years, tugs at our heartstrings. Not only was Zoey reunited with her loving family, but her incredible journey reminds us that miracles can happen, even when all hope seems lost.

Zoey’s disappearance in 2010 left her owner, Michelle, devastated. She had only stepped away for 20 minutes to run errands, leaving her two dogs at home. When Michelle returned, she was shocked to find Zoey missing while her sister remained. Michelle took immediate action, notifying her microchip company and informing her neighbors of the situation. She held onto hope, waiting for that one call that would bring her sweet dog back home.

Zoey's microchip company listed her as 'deceased' in 2015

Months turned into years, and Michelle eventually moved with her family to Benecia, over an hour away from Lafayette, California. As time went on, she sadly accepted that Zoey might never be found. But then, after 12 years, the call she had been yearning for finally came.

A stray dog had been found and dropped off on a rural property outside Stockton. Animal Services Officer Brandon Levin scanned the dog for a microchip. To everyone’s astonishment, the dog turned out to be Zoey, the same Zoey who had gone missing 12 years ago. The microchip company had mistakenly labeled her as “deceased” in their 2015 records. But fate had other plans for Zoey and Michelle.

Zoey was reported missing in 2010

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office orchestrated a heartwarming reunion. Michelle and Zoey locked eyes again in Rio Vista. The joy and disbelief palpable in the air. Michelle, still in shock, shared her excitement, “I definitely didn’t expect this to ever happen – but I’m excited to hopefully bring her home.”

This heartwarming story showcases the power of microchipping and the importance of never giving up hope. Michelle’s experience serves as a reminder that miracles can happen when we least expect them. Zoey’s incredible journey is a testament to the unbreakable bond between humans and their furry friends.

Zoey may have lost her litter sister along the way, but she has gained a chance at a new chapter with Michelle and her 16-year-old Labrador. Friends will be made, memories will be cherished, and Zoey will finally be able to receive the love and care she deserves.

As we celebrate this miraculous reunion and marvel at Zoey’s resilience, let’s learn from her story. Let’s hold onto hope, even in the darkest of times. Because just when we least expect it, life surprises us with its capacity for joy and the power of second chances.
