Mothers: the fierce protectors of their children, willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Do you agree with this?

In Lake Jackson, Texas, Phyllis Pena displayed the remarkable strength of a mother’s love when she returned home one morning to find a man peeking into her 15-year-old daughter’s window. Without hesitation, Pena immediately called the police.

The man, identified as 19-year-old Zane Hawkins, tried to escape but was eventually apprehended by the police. However, as they were outside with Pena and her daughter, Hawkins attempted yet another desperate getaway.

But Pena was not about to let this happen. Not on her watch.

Caught on the officer’s dash cam, Pena fearlessly tackled Hawkins, risking her safety to protect her daughter. Her courageous act was not something seen every day, as Sergeant Roy Welch mentioned, “It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themselves in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody.”

Although putting herself in danger, Pena’s focus was unwavering: “My kids are my life, and just making sure I protect them.” Her unwavering determination to shield her children is something that resonates with mothers everywhere.

Hawkins was arrested and now faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.

What about you? Have you ever found yourself defending your children against someone? Or do you believe you would be able to do so if the situation called for it? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
