Going on vacation is a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind. But for many of us pet owners, it’s hard to leave our furry companions behind. That’s why the recent announcement from Virgin Airlines has us excited. They are planning to allow pets in the cabins of their planes!

In a press release aptly titled ‘Cats out the Bag,’ Virgin Airlines shared their plans to become the first airline in Australia to offer this pet-friendly service. This move comes after a survey conducted in 2021 revealed that 85% of respondents were in favor of allowing pets in the cabin.

And it’s not just pet owners who are thrilled about this. In fact, 57% of the respondents said that they would be more likely to fly with Virgin Airlines if they could bring their pets along. This puts them in line with other major carriers in North America that already allow pets on domestic flights.

According to Jayne Hrdlicka, the CEO of Virgin Airlines, their love for animals has always been a part of their DNA. They are excited about the prospect of launching Australia’s first-ever pets in cabin flights. Hrdlicka also reassured passengers that allowing pets in the cabins would not affect the existing policy of allowing assistance animals to travel for free.

So, how will this new service work? Only small dogs and cats that can fit under the seat in front of the passenger will be allowed. They will need to be in an approved carrier during the flight, ensuring that they stay in their designated space. While the fee for this service has not been disclosed yet, it will be charged to those who qualify.

Some concerns have been raised about allergies and whether passengers will be seated next to a pet. In response, Virgin Atlantic stated that they are committed to minimizing any impact on passengers who are not traveling with a pet. They will be working on developing strict rules and protocols to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.

This exciting development from Virgin Airlines opens up new opportunities for pet owners to travel with their beloved companions. Whether it’s a short domestic trip or a longer international flight, having our pets by our side will make the journey even more enjoyable. So, start planning your next adventure with your furry friends because soon, they can join you in the cabin!
