In the past, Amber and her ex-husband Johnny Depp were embroiled in a highly publicized defamation trial. Despite the trial ending over two years ago, Amber has since made some significant changes that may surprise her fans. Not only has she changed her name, but she has also relocated to a new country.
While it may be challenging for her followers to locate her in her new home, as she reportedly goes by a different name now, this move represents a fresh chapter in her life. The decision to change her name comes after she and Johnny Depp sought damages against each other for alleged defamation.
Their divorce in 2016 was followed by Amber alleging physical and sexual abuse in an interview with the Washington Post. Although she did not explicitly mention Depp’s name, he sued her for defamation. Amber retaliated with a counterclaim, accusing him of orchestrating a smear campaign against her and seeking $1 million in damages.
After an emotional and lengthy trial, a jury ruled in favor of Depp, awarding him compensatory damages. However, the jury also voted in favor of Amber, granting her $2 million in damages for a comment made by one of Depp’s lawyers.
Despite the verdict, Amber had planned to appeal it. Although she achieved partial success in court, she has intentionally kept a low profile ever since. In late 2022, it was reported that she had relocated to Spain, accompanied by her daughter, Oonagh Paige, who was born in 2021 via surrogacy.
Amber spoke about her love for Spain in an interview in 2023, solidifying her commitment to her new home. Additionally, the Justice League star, who is fluent in Spanish, has also chosen to adopt a new name to symbolize her fresh start.
According to El Diario de Mallorca, Amber had been living under the name Martha Jane Cannary, the real name of the old-West American sharpshooter Calamity Jane. This choice of identity has garnered attention, especially considering Johnny Depp’s claims of Native American ancestry.
While it is unclear if she is still using the same name, it is evident that what matters most to Amber is her daughter. In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, an anonymous source revealed that Amber is fully focused on being a great mom and spending quality time with her girl.
