Constance with her mum Laura Bailey

At the age of 13, Constance Bailey, an autistic ballerina, has achieved something reminiscent of the iconic movie character Billy Elliot. She raised over £100,000 to fulfill her dream of studying at one of the UK’s most prestigious dance schools, the Hammond School.

Constance’s journey started at the tender age of two when she began her foray into the world of dance. Last January, she was offered a place at the Hammond School with fees amounting to £30,000 per year. Unfortunately, her single mother, Laura Bailey, who works as a PA in the NHS, could not afford the expenses.

However, a remarkable turn of events unfolded when 3,500 strangers came together to donate a staggering £105,169 to support Constance’s education at the dance school in Chester. Laura, speaking with pride, shared how her daughter’s exceptional creativity extends beyond ballet. Constance also writes poetry and plays, making her an extraordinary individual.

Laura emphasized the importance of vocational education for Constance, stating that she doesn’t fit into the mold of an “ordinary school.” Ballet and drama have played a significant role in helping Constance break out of her shyness, building her confidence and nurturing her sense of purpose.

Constance has the chance to achieve her dream

Despite facing adversity, Constance’s hard work and determination prevailed, leading her to this incredible opportunity. This achievement brings immense pride to Laura, who recognized the odds stacked against them throughout the journey. Constance’s admission to the Hammond School will pave the way for her dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.

In Laura’s words, “She has spent 11 years of her life working her socks off.” Constance’s expression and passion shine brightest through dance, allowing her to communicate what words often struggle to convey. With her newfound confidence, receiving her pointe shoes brought a sense of soaring for Constance, as if she could truly fly.
