It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kirstie Alley, best known for her iconic role on the hit television show Cheers. Kirstie passed away at the age of 71 after a brief battle with colon cancer, a disease she only recently discovered she had. Colon cancer is often referred to as the “silent killer” because its symptoms can take longer to manifest than other types of cancer. Kirstie’s family shared the sad news on social media, expressing their love and admiration for her:

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

Kirstie had been receiving treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Bay, Florida before she passed. Her battle with cancer serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and regular check-ups.

While Kirstie will forever be remembered for her role as a bar manager on Cheers, she was also known for being an active member of the Church of Scientology and occasionally engaging in public arguments with other celebrities. Her talent and presence on and off-screen will be sorely missed.

Many celebrities and friends have paid tribute to Kirstie following the news of her passing. John Travolta, who had a romantic connection with Kirstie in the past, shared a heartfelt tribute:

“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”

Ted Danson, who portrayed the head bartender on Cheers, shared his fond memories of working with Kirstie:

“Her ability to portray a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown was both moving and hysterically funny. She made me laugh 30 years ago when she shot that scene, and she made me laugh today just as hard. As I got off the plane, I heard that Kirstie had died. I am so sad and so grateful for all the times she made me laugh. I send my love to her children. As they well know, their mother had a heart of gold. I will miss her.”

Kirstie Alley’s legacy will live on through her memorable performances and the laughter she brought to the lives of many. May she rest in peace.
