David McCallum

We have been experiencing a difficult year with the loss of several beloved celebrities. Unfortunately, we have more sad news to share. David McCallum, best known for his role as Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard in the NCIS series, has passed away.

While many knew him from his time on NCIS, few may have been aware of his extensive career spanning over 70 years. Throughout that time, he had the privilege of working alongside some of the greatest actors of his generation.

Born in Scotland in 1933, McCallum made the decision to pursue acting seriously and moved to the United States in 1961. Soon after his arrival, he landed a role on the successful show The Man From U.N.C.L.E. His portrayal of Illya Kuryakin on this series earned him two Emmy Award nominations, and he appeared in 105 episodes.

McCallum also had the opportunity to share the screen with renowned stars such as Joan Crawford, Kurt Russell, Sonny and Cher, and Joan Collins. Reflecting on those experiences in 2010, he admitted to feeling starstruck each time.

In 2003, McCallum rejuvenated his career and captured the hearts of a younger audience with his role on NCIS as Ducky. This opportunity came about unexpectedly, as he explained, “I was working on Park Avenue when I received a call from my agent asking if I was interested in auditioning for the role of a lecherous doctor in a new medical drama. I thought to myself, ‘Why not?’”

According to a statement, McCallum passed away from natural causes at New York Presbyterian Hospital. The statement described him as a talented actor, author, and beloved figure worldwide. His legacy will live on through his family and the countless hours of film and television that he gifted us.

He leaves behind his wife, five children, and eight grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
