Brave boy's mission to travel 6,786-mile distance round moon for sick little bro

At just seven years old, Harry Byrne has embarked on a remarkable space mission. He aims to walk, run, cycle, skip, and jump a total distance of 6,786 miles – the equivalent of going around the moon. This courageous endeavor is all to support his gravely ill little brother, Reuben.

The purpose of Harry’s challenge is to raise £4,000 for children’s hospices that have provided invaluable assistance to two-year-old Reuben. Reuben was born with a rare condition that causes his brain to deteriorate, requiring constant medical attention and care.

Joining Harry on this incredible journey are his family, friends, and other enthusiastic “moon trekkers.” Together, they are determined to cover the 6,786 miles by October 31st.

Harry’s unwavering love for his brother is evident in his daily interactions with him. With arms outstretched, Harry often tells Reuben, “I love you around the moon and back.” These simple words bring smiles to Reuben’s face, offering a moment of respite from his daily struggle with up to 10 seizures a day. The constant fear of the unknown looms over his family, with the thought of whether each seizure might be his last.

The funds raised from the moon challenge will go towards supporting Julia’s House and Naomi House & Jacksplace, two children’s hospices offering essential care to seriously ill children like Reuben. These specialized facilities provide round-the-clock attention and respite care to families like Harry’s, alleviating some of the physical and emotional exhaustion that comes with caring for a child with complex needs.

Reuben needs a lot of care

Harry’s plan includes taking Reuben along in his buggy for as many moon miles as possible. These shared moments become cherished memories, as Pooh bear once said, “They don’t realize they’re making memories together, they just know they’re having fun.” The love and bravery exhibited by both brothers are truly awe-inspiring and heartwarming.

Already, Harry has garnered the support of over 300 individuals who have joined his Facebook group. Many have pledged miles and generously donated to this incredible cause.

Harry is up for the challenge

The admirable efforts of Harry, the incredible big brother, have not gone unnoticed. Nicky Clack, fundraising administrator for Julia’s House, expressed her gratitude, stating, “Harry’s an incredible big brother. He’s been an absolute star raising funds for Julia’s House this year. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Harry for racing around the moon, and bon voyage on his cosmic adventure.”
