Blending families together can be challenging, especially for children who may feel hurt or angry when their parents remarry. However, one woman has shown her love and appreciation for her new stepson in the most beautiful way – by dedicating part of her wedding vows to him.

Vanessa Lynch, 30, became a stepmom to nine-year-old Henry when she married Craig Lynch. After making her vows to her new husband, Vanessa turned her attention to the young boy. Caught on camera, her heartfelt words melted the hearts of everyone present.

Vanessa started by acknowledging that she wasn’t there for Henry’s birth or his first steps and words. However, she made a promise to be there for many more of his firsts. She vowed to love him as her own and be the best wife to his dad and stepmom that she could be.

The reason Vanessa wanted to dedicate a part of her vows to Henry was because she didn’t want him to see her as just “a woman his dad was married to.” She wanted him to know that she genuinely cared for him and his well-being.

Although Vanessa was nervous about how Henry would react, given his shyness and nervousness in front of people, she decided to go ahead. After finishing her vows to Craig, she motioned for him to scoot over so she could address Henry directly. To her delight, Henry later told her that her words meant a lot to him and that he felt even closer to her than before.

Vanessa, a nurse by profession, first met Craig when they were both in college. She was dating his roommate at the time. A few months into their relationship, Craig introduced her to Henry. After getting engaged in August 2019, their wedding plans were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, they finally tied the knot on December 11th of this year.

When preparing her vows for the wedding, Vanessa came up with the idea of saying special words to Henry during the ceremony. Although she initially had concerns about making him uncomfortable, she felt that it was important not to leave him out. While it was emotional for Vanessa to say these words out loud, her love for Henry and the meaningful impact of her blended family upbringing made it essential.

For Vanessa, having experienced having a stepdad in her own life, walking down the aisle with both her biological dad and stepdad was a symbolic gesture. It emphasized her belief that family isn’t solely limited to blood relatives. It is the love and commitment shared between individuals that truly makes a family.

Vanessa’s story serves as an inspiring reminder that love knows no boundaries. Stepchildren can be embraced and cherished as if they were one’s own, creating beautiful bonds of family built on love and commitment.
