A Quick-Thinking Act of Heroism

Charlie used his mum's mobile to call 999 after Ria wouldn't wake up

In a heartwarming act of bravery, two young boys, Charlie (7) and Harris (4), saved their mother’s life when she suffered a medical emergency. Their quick thinking and calm demeanor during the crisis earned them praise from paramedics and filled their mother, Ria, with immense pride.

It all started when Ria Griffiths, from Maesteg, had a seizure after becoming stressed by children throwing fireworks at their door. Sensing something was wrong, Charlie immediately dialed 999 and informed the emergency operator that his mother was unwell. However, there was a challenge – the family had recently moved house, and Charlie didn’t know the new address.

Instead of panicking, Charlie decided to call his mother’s friend for help. With her assistance, emergency services were able to reach their home promptly. Paramedics commended Charlie for his actions, noting that his quick response potentially saved his mother’s life.

A Mother’s Pride

Recalling the incident, Ria expressed her gratitude and admiration for her boys. She remarked, “I don’t remember anything, I just remember the police and ambulance explaining to me how brave my children had been, and praising them. There are no words to describe how proud I am.”

During the ordeal, Charlie also had the responsibility of keeping his younger brother, Harris, calm. The little boy was understandably frightened and worried about his mother’s well-being. Harris repeatedly asked, “Is mummy going to die?” Nevertheless, Charlie’s reassuring presence helped ease his brother’s fears.
