Can you believe it’s been 10 years since the tragic passing of beloved actor Cory Monteith? The talented star, known for his role as Finn Hudson on the hit show Glee, left a lasting impact on his co-stars and fans alike. Recently, some of the Glee alums opened up about an episode that is too “morbid” for them to re-watch.

Cory Monteith’s Glee co-stars admit there’s one ‘eerie’ episode that’s too ‘morbid’ for them to re-watch 10 years after his tragic death

Behind the scenes of Glee, the show faced its fair share of difficulties and controversies. Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera, both taken too soon, brought an unexpected level of sorrow to the cast and crew. Monteith passed away tragically on July 13, 2013, due to an accidental drug overdose.

When it came time to address Monteith’s passing on the show, the writers faced the difficult task of incorporating his character’s death in a family-friendly way. They chose to have Finn Hudson die without explicitly stating the cause of his death.

However, there was another episode of Glee that, in retrospect, deeply resonated with Monteith’s real-life struggles. In Season 3, Episode 10, Finn Hudson receives the devastating news that his father passed away from a drug overdose while serving in the army.

Reflecting on this episode, Monteith’s co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale, who portrayed Tina and Artie, shared their feelings on a recent episode of their podcast, And That’s What You REALLY Missed. The storyline hit close to home for them and still lingers in their memories.

Jenna expressed, “We probably don’t remember it because we thought it was just another storyline for Finn that was really well-done. But in hindsight, everything he said about it struck a different chord that mirrored his life too closely. It was just really sad to watch.”

Kevin concurred, adding, “Yeah, it felt really dark and morbid watching it. But obviously, there was no way to know what the future was going to be… it just felt very eerie.”

The impact of Monteith’s untimely death continues to be felt by the Glee family. Showrunner Ryan Murphy recently shared that if it were up to him, Glee would have halted production for a significant period following Monteith’s passing, possibly even leading to the show’s end.
