Nostradamus, the renowned French astrologer, is still widely known even five centuries after his passing. He gained fame for his book Les Prophéties, a collection of poetic quatrains that allegedly predict future events. These quatrains have been analyzed and interpreted for years, with many believing that a significant number of his predictions have indeed come true.
Some of the notable events he is said to have predicted include the Great Fire of London, Hitler’s rise to power, both World Wars, and the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are even claims that he anticipated the September 11 terrorist attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The accuracy of Nostradamus’s predictions has been widely acknowledged over time, but unfortunately, his vision for the year 2024 is far from optimistic.
Nostradamus described the year 2024 as catastrophic for the environment. He predicted immense chaos and painted a picture of devastating floods and a parched Earth due to disastrous ecological imbalances. The phrase “very great famine through pestiferous wave” could possibly refer to floods that decimate crops, spread diseases, and cause widespread hunger, rather than mere flooding. If his visions hold true, we could be facing even more severe climate-related disasters this year than we fear.
Many journalists, economists, and geopolitical experts have speculated that China’s growing global power would lead to a potential Cold War scenario with the United States. In one of Nostradamus’s quatrains, he mentions “combat and naval battle” and writes that the “Red adversary will become pale with fear” and put “the great Ocean in dread.” Experts interpret the “Red adversary” as a reference to communist China, and the rest of the quatrain implies a confrontation at sea that could have serious consequences for world peace.
Nostradamus made several accurate predictions about royal figures, including the death of Henry II. In a quatrain, he wrote about a young lion triumphing over an older one and piercing his eyes through a golden cage, resulting in a cruel death from two wounds. This prophecy came true when Henry II died a slow and agonizing death from sepsis after being impaled by a lance during a joust with one of his young soldiers.

Nostradamus also predicted the death of Queen Elizabeth II and accurately foretold her exact age at the time of her passing. For the year 2024, he refers to someone he calls the “King of the Isles” who goes through a controversial divorce and is eventually “driven out by force.” According to his writings, this king would be replaced by someone who lacks the typical qualities of a monarch.
Nostradamus wrote, “Through the death of the very old Pontiff, a Roman of good age will be elected.” Many believe that this prophecy suggests a potential change in leadership, considering Pope Francis’s advanced age and recent health issues. The incoming pope is predicted to “weaken his see” and remain in office for some time. Interpreters speculate that “weakening” refers to a reduction in the Church’s influence and integrity during the next pope’s tenure.
