In a shocking incident that unfolded on Unruh Avenue, a FedEx driver had to defend himself against an armed robber. The 32-year-old driver, who was legally carrying a firearm, was delivering a package when he was approached by the assailant. The robber stole his wallet and keys before shooting at him.

But the brave FedEx driver didn’t back down. He returned fire, striking the 27-year-old robber, Jevan Lundy, severely. Lundy was later found unresponsive on Creston Street and pronounced dead at Einstein Medical Center. The police recovered the victim’s FedEx ID card from the scene.

During the investigation, another man was found with Lundy, and the vehicle they were in was searched. Although the second man was taken in for questioning, it is unclear whether he will face any charges. Police say he is cooperating with them and denying any involvement in the robbery.

The FedEx driver managed to escape the scene and was found slumped over his truck’s steering wheel in an Acme parking lot on Oxford Avenue. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach. However, he was able to inform the officers about what had occurred. Authorities recovered his legally registered 9mm handgun and permit to carry inside the truck.

Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter believes that the driver acted in self-defense. “Based on the preliminary story that was relayed, it appears to be self-defense: he was shot first, he fired back,” she stated. The neighbors know the driver as a “nice guy” who always goes the extra mile. Margie Helverson, a resident in the neighborhood, expressed her concerns for his well-being and prayed for his recovery.

While the incident raises questions about the safety of delivery drivers, FedEx has refrained from commenting on whether they have a policy on drivers being armed. Their main priority remains the safety of their team members and service providers, and they are fully cooperating with the authorities during the investigation.
