When a man and a young woman boarded an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to San Francisco, flight attendant Shelia Frederick’s intuition kicked in. Something didn’t seem right. The girl was dressed inappropriately for her age and avoided making eye contact with anyone. Concerned, Shelia couldn’t shake off her worry as she went about her duties on the plane. Little did she know, her determination and bravery would play a pivotal role in saving a life.

One of Shelia’s strategies was to make eye contact with the young girl as she served food on the aircraft. She confided in her colleagues, sharing her concerns, and together they hatched a plan. While her colleagues distracted the man, Shelia seized the opportunity to engage the girl discreetly.

“There was a sadness in his eyes when he finally looked up,” Shelia recalled. With quick thinking, Shelia left a discreet note in one of the plane’s bathrooms: “I need help.” She shared her incredible journey in a video that has touched the hearts of many.

Thanks to Shelia’s initiative, the girl found an excuse to visit the restroom. Despite the man lingering nearby, Shelia stood her ground, closely monitoring the situation. Shelia’s quick actions had set the wheels in motion, as she promptly notified the pilot, who relayed the information to ground control. Upon landing, authorities were waiting to intervene and apprehend the man.

Shelia’s courage didn’t stop there. She stayed connected with the young woman she rescued from a potential human trafficking ordeal. Their bond grew, and they continued to communicate over the phone for several years. Today, the remarkable survivor is even attending college. Shelia has become an inspiration, reminding us all to trust our instincts and be vigilant.
