Former President Jimmy Carter, at the age of 99, made a heartfelt and poignant appearance at the funeral of his beloved wife, Rosalynn Carter. Adorned in a stylish suit and wrapped in a cozy blanket, he was wheeled into the ceremony, taking his seat at the front to bid farewell to the woman he had shared his life with for over 77 years.

Despite currently being in hospice care, President Carter embarked on a two-and-a-half-hour journey from his home in Plains, Georgia, to Atlanta to attend the event. Rosalynn’s remains had been transferred to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum the day before.

The presence of President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden added to the significance of the occasion. All the other former first ladies, including Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Melania Trump, and Laura Bush, were invited as well. They all attended the ceremony and were captured entering Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in a solemn procession.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Chip Carter, the couple’s son, shared a touching detail about his father’s final moments with his mother. Former President Carter was by Rosalynn’s side, expressing his love for her and letting her know how proud he was of all the remarkable achievements she had accomplished throughout her life.

Rosalynn Carter was widely recognized for her unwavering advocacy for mental health awareness and the improvement of services for those struggling with mental illness. She tirelessly fought to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

On the day before Rosalynn’s passing, on November 18th, Jimmy Carter requested a private moment with his wife. Chip Carter mentioned that it is likely they were praying together in their intimate chamber. Their beds were arranged foot-to-foot, allowing them to gaze into each other’s eyes as they cherished their final moments together.
