Visitors to a Texas safari park had a terrifying experience recently when they witnessed a giraffe lifting a toddler out of a car’s sunroof. The incident took place at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.

Lindsey Merriman, who was a few cars behind the vehicle involved, managed to capture the shocking moment on camera. She was with her family, and her daughter had been filming a giraffe eating out of people’s hands and poking its head into sunroofs.

“We were three cars behind a red truck and saw the giraffe accidentally grab a little girl’s shirt along with the food and lift her from the bed of the truck,” Merriman recalled.

According to reports, the child was a two-year-old girl named Paisley Toten. Her father, Jason Toten, described the incident: “We stopped to feed the giraffes, and I turned around to look out the back window, and I saw the giraffe kind of digging around right there, and then it just grabbed her, and I didn’t see her no more.”

It appears that the giraffe was trying to eat the food from the girl’s hands but unintentionally caught hold of her shirt with its mouth. This resulted in the giraffe partially pulling her out of the sunroof before dropping her back into the vehicle.

Thankfully, no one in the car was harmed during the incident. Fossil Rim has issued a statement, assuring the public that they will take immediate action. They stated, “Effective immediately, Fossil Rim will no longer be allowing guests to ride through the park in truck beds. Fossil Rim offers a variety of experiences guided by knowledgeable staff so guests can continue to have up-close and memorable animal encounters, and support our mission to save threatened and endangered species.”

This serves as a reminder that even in the seemingly safest environments, accidents can happen. It’s crucial to prioritize the safety of both visitors and animals in any wildlife encounter.
