Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood producer currently serving time in a Los Angeles jail, recently found himself in hot water yet again. Known for his lavish lifestyle, Weinstein attempted to bring a taste of luxury into his jail cell, but the consequences were severe.

Weinstein was caught smuggling a container of Milk Duds candies into the facility, much to the shock of the prison guards. Sources have revealed that the contraband was discovered after a meeting with his lawyer, Shawn Burkley, leading some to suspect that Burkley might have been involved in providing the sweet treats.

Weinstein, however, claims it was all a “misunderstanding” and professes innocence. In a statement to TMZ, he said, “This was an innocent misunderstanding. It will not happen again. I have been a model inmate, following the rules and regulations, and I am sincerely sorry.”

Law enforcement authorities are skeptical of Weinstein’s explanation and believe that he may have obtained the candy from a member of his legal team. Yet, despite his attempt to sneak in the Milk Duds, no legal action has been taken against him by either the jail or the court.

Weinstein’s lead lawyers, Mark Werksman and Alan Jackson, expressed regret over the incident and assured that it was an isolated occurrence. They stated, “We have been informed about this and are very sorry it happened. It had not happened before and never happened since. Harvey has been a model inmate and intends to continue as such.”

Although Weinstein will not face additional punishment for his smuggling attempt, he will remain in custody, serving his sentence in the jail’s Correctional Treatment Center medical unit due to his health condition.

Weinstein’s legal woes are far from over, as he awaits trial on federal charges related to allegations of sexual assault. Despite his denials, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison in March 2020 for rape and criminal sexual assault.

While Weinstein’s actions may have caused a stir, it’s important to remember that Milk Duds, although delicious, are not worth going to jail over. Whether Weinstein will attempt to smuggle anything else into jail remains to be seen.
