Newlyweds Lose $27,000 On Their Wedding After More Than Half The Guests Didn’t Show Up

Gray Narvaez-Dragion, an 18-year-old trans person, was filled with excitement as they eagerly awaited their wedding. Inviting everyone they could think of to join them on their special day, dozens of guests RSVPed, assuring the couple of their presence to celebrate their union and love.

However, Gray and their partner were left shocked and heartbroken when more than half of their guests failed to show up on the day of the celebration, leaving the transgender person and their partner feeling abandoned.

In an attempt to share their disappointment with the world, Gray took to TikTok and created a video showcasing all the empty seats at their wedding. The video quickly went viral, amassing over five million views and counting. The caption read, “88 people said yes… not even 40 showed up.”

The consequences of the low turnout were more than just emotional. The newlyweds suffered a financial loss of over $27,000, as they had invested their hard-earned money in a wedding meant to accommodate 88 guests. Instead, they found themselves surrounded by less than half of the promised attendees.

TikTok users flooded the viral video with comments and reactions, many expressing their disdain for the no-show guests. One user highlighted the importance of communication, stating, “If you can’t make it to a wedding, tell the hosts – it’s okay! They can save money with their caterers if you give notice! Don’t lie!”

Unfortunately, Gray’s situation is not unique. Another user shared a similar experience, saying, “It happened to my sister. We set the room for eighty, and not even thirty came. We made the best of it, but damn. I would never do that to someone.”

Gray had to cancel certain planned events due to the poor attendance, missing out on experiences such as the “sparkler send-off, private dance, dinner, and cutting the reception short.” Reflecting on the empty chairs, Gray confessed, “Our ceremony made me so happy, but when I looked into the chairs we had set up, I realized they were empty. I didn’t realize until after… I’ve been in tears for hours over this. I was so heartbroken.”

Despite the disappointment, Gray and their new husband, Nyx, found solace in each other’s arms. They embraced in the empty ceremony room, shedding tears together. Gray added, “I can’t afford our own food after I got fired and not even half attended. I’m devastated.”

Let this serve as a reminder to be considerate and honor your commitments.
