Asda driver Ron Teskowski holds his Microlise Driver of the Year Award

In a heartwarming act of bravery and kindness, an Asda driver named Ron Teskowski went above and beyond his duty to save an elderly couple from a potentially life-threatening gas leak. Despite heavy snowfall, Ron walked an incredible nine miles in the snow to complete his deliveries and ensure the safety of his customers.

Ron, who was initially scheduled to have a day off, decided to go to work after witnessing how desperate and vulnerable his customers were the previous day due to the heavy snow. When he visited the elderly couple’s home, he immediately detected the smell of gas and noticed that they were disoriented. Ron quickly sprang into action, checking the home thoroughly, and eventually discovering that an unlit hob had been left on for hours.

His prompt intervention undoubtedly saved the couple’s lives. Ron’s act of heroism did not go unnoticed, and he was thanked for his life-saving efforts at the time. Months later, he was officially recognized in the Extra Mile category at the prestigious Microlise Driver of the Year Awards, earning well-deserved accolades for his extraordinary actions.

Despite facing challenging conditions that forced him to abandon his car, Ron remained determined to reach his customers. He walked an arduous nine miles to work before embarking on his delivery route. Although it took four hours longer than usual, Ron witnessed the desperation and gratitude of customers who were eagerly awaiting their essential supplies. To go the extra mile, Ron even took on an additional delivery, making his way back to his base in Leeds after midnight.

The following day, despite it being his scheduled day off, Ron once again undertook the monumental task of walking nine miles to work and delivering food to customers across the city. Little did he know that it was on this day that he would stumble upon the gas leak at the elderly couple’s home.

Simon Gregg, Asda’s vice president of online grocery, expressed his pride in Ron’s achievement, stating, “We’re really proud of Ron for winning this award for going the extra mile. Ron demonstrates the Asda values every day of going above and beyond to ensure our customers get their orders. He also identified a life-threatening issue with an elderly couple when out driving and rallied to get help and support. We’re really proud of him. We’ve also hundreds of Asda delivery drivers who are doing similar things week in, week out, especially over the last year, and I couldn’t be more proud of them all.”

Transport manager Charlotte Naylor echoed these sentiments, emphasizing their immense appreciation for Ron. She revealed that they regularly receive positive feedback from customers about his exceptional service.

This heartwarming story of Ron Teskowski’s bravery and selflessness serves as a shining example of the incredible dedication and compassion displayed by Asda’s delivery drivers. Ron’s actions not only highlight the importance of going above and beyond for others but also remind us of the extraordinary individuals making a positive impact in our communities, even in challenging circumstances.
