In 1996, the world was shaken by the brutal murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey. Despite the passing of 25 years, the circumstances surrounding her death still remain a mystery. However, in a recent interview, JonBenet’s half-brother, John Andrew Ramsey, has stepped forward to shed light on the tragedy that captured the nation’s attention.

When JonBenet’s lifeless body was discovered in her family’s Boulder, Colorado home, it sent shockwaves around the globe. Some suspected her parents’ involvement in the crime, while others believed an outsider was responsible. Yet, even now, the unresolved case of JonBenet Ramsey continues to captivate the world.

John and Patsy Ramsey, the wealthy parents of the young beauty queen, were labeled as prime suspects in her murder. However, they vehemently maintained their innocence throughout the investigation. John Andrew, JonBenet’s half-brother, who was twenty years old at the time of her death, was living away from the grand Boulder residence.

Now, at the age of 45, John Andrew remains steadfast in his belief that his father and stepmother did not harm JonBenet. He also asserts the innocence of his half-brother, Burke, who resided in the home when the tragedy unfolded.

Throughout the case, John Andrew supported investigator Lou Smit, a retired homicide detective who came out of retirement to uncover the truth behind JonBenet Ramsey’s murder. Smit worked independently with the Ramsey family, aiming to establish their innocence.

“Lou Smit was an extraordinary detective,” John Andrew reflects in a 20/20 special. For the very first time, viewers will have the opportunity to witness John Andrew’s personal video diaries, providing insights that have remained unseen until now.

ABC News Legal Analyst Jami Lloyd describes Smit’s collection of evidence as a comprehensive resource on the case. Sadly, Smit passed away in 2010 without being able to identify JonBenet’s killer. Before his death, he shared a list of potential suspects with his family members, who remain dedicated to finding justice for the slain child.

John Andrew emphasizes, “It is crucial for people to understand that this case can be solved. We will find this killer.”

Despite the parents being prime suspects for over a decade, they were eventually exonerated in 2008 when investigators concluded they were not responsible for JonBenet’s death. Tragically, Patsy Ramsey, the mother of the young girl, passed away in 2006 before she could officially be declared innocent and have all charges dropped.

As we reflect on this heart-wrenching case, the question remains: Will investigators ever uncover the identity of JonBenet Ramsey’s killer?
