We all make decisions in life, some good and some bad. Unfortunately, some of these decisions can have a negative impact on not only ourselves but also the people closest to us. This story is a perfect example of how one woman’s choices led to disastrous consequences.

The story begins with a hardworking and no-nonsense grandmother who owned her own successful upholstery business. When she passed away, she left behind a will that allocated her assets to her children and grandchildren based on what would benefit each of them the most. For her grandchild, she created an education trust, knowing that they had dreams of attending college. However, for the protagonist’s mother, she only received some heirloom jewelry.

Naturally, the mother was furious, feeling that her inheritance was worth much more than the other grandchildren’s. But the protagonist understood that it was her grandmother’s prerogative to distribute her assets as she saw fit.

Fast forward to the protagonist’s freshman year of college, where she expected her trust to cover her expenses. To her shock, she discovered that her mother had been draining the trust, claiming it was for education expenses. As it turned out, the mother had been using the money to buy herself a plot of land and build her dream house. The protagonist was devastated, unable to take legal action and left with no choice but to cut ties with her mother.

Years later, the consequences of the mother’s actions caught up with her. She had failed to pay taxes on the money she had taken from her daughter’s trust and on the property itself. The county sent her a hefty bill of over $100k in back taxes and penalties. Desperate, she hired a lawyer but couldn’t find a way out of her predicament.

To make matters worse, the housing market crashed, and the value of her dream house plummeted. This meant that when the mother finally sold the house to pay off her debts, she was left with nothing. Bankrupt, she was forced to move into an apartment and spend the next few years paying off her debts.

Today, the mother is retired but has no savings. She spends her days feeling bored and lonely, blaming everyone but herself for her mistakes. The protagonist, on the other hand, has managed to build a successful life for herself. She finished school, got a good job, and even bought her own house that she pays taxes on.

While the protagonist will never forgive her mother for stealing her inheritance, she takes solace in the fact that karma caught up with her. Sometimes, the consequences of our actions are far more damaging than we could ever imagine.
