For many children, picture day is an exciting event where they get to show off their personal style. But for three-year-old Kaylieann Steinbach, who has profound hearing loss, it can be a nerve-wracking experience. However, this little girl’s determination and sense of self-expression have made her quite the superhero at school!

Kaylieann has a love for superheroes, particularly Superman and Supergirl, which she enthusiastically pronounces as “Pooterman” and “Pootergirl.” So when it came time to choose an outfit for picture day, she insisted on wearing her “Pootergirl” costume. Her parents, Austin and Cristina Steinbach, fully supported her decision.

With confidence radiating through her smile, Kaylieann posed in front of the camera, donning her superhero ensemble. To complete her picture day look, she even brought along a superhero doll as her sidekick. Her unique sense of style has made her a trendsetter at school, where both her teachers and classmates eagerly await her daily superhero ensembles.

Austin shared Kaylieann’s class photo on Reddit, hoping to spread a little joy and celebrate his daughter’s independence. Little did he know the enormous impact it would have. The post received an overwhelming amount of supportive messages, particularly from the deaf community.

“The reaction and turnout from the deaf community is amazing,” Austin shared in an interview. “I never expected her picture to touch so many hearts. It’s been overwhelming to receive all the messages of support and kindness.”

Kaylieann’s courageous and resilient spirit shines through her story. Despite the challenges she faces with her hearing, she confidently embraced her true self on picture day. I, like many others, see her as a true superhero.
