Prom

Teenagers have faced numerous challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, with cancelled exams causing chaos in their plans for university and employment. On top of that, they missed out on important milestones such as school leavers day and prom. However, a group of children who had their school prom cancelled decided they would not let that stop them from having a memorable celebration. With the help of their families and friends, they organized their own prom.

In Somerset, parents were determined to give their children a special day, despite the cancellation. They had only five days to put something together and did not receive any assistance from the local schools. However, the community rallied together thanks to a Facebook campaign page.

Nick Shard, one of the organizers, explained, “The school sadly cancelled the prom, but the kids had already bought their suits and dresses, so we thought we have to put something on for them.” The official prom was supposed to take place last Friday, but due to Covid restrictions, it was forced to be cancelled.

Undeterred, the parents and volunteers managed to arrange an alternative celebration. Within just three days, they secured the attendance of 85 guests and organized the venue at the local Long Sutton Golf Club, along with photographers and a DJ. Everyone involved went above and beyond to ensure the kids had a fantastic night.

Prom

After enduring months of turmoil due to the pandemic, the teenagers finally got the chance to dress up in their prom attire and dance the night away. It has been a challenging eighteen months for children all across the country, with education being disrupted by the effects of Covid. Nick stated, “We felt that after the year they’ve had, they deserved something.”
