Campbell Kaplinsky, eight, cried himself to sleep after being refused entry to the West Ham v Liverpool match

Eight-year-old Campbell Kaplinsky was left devastated when he and his dad, Ben, were denied entry to a Liverpool game on November 7th. However, a kind stranger has now given them tickets to another match, turning their heartbreaking experience into a heartwarming one.

Campbell had earned the tickets as a reward for consistently going to bed on time for three weeks. The anticipation and excitement were palpable as he and his dad made the journey from Brighton to the Olympic Stadium, dressed in their Liverpool attire.

But things took a heartbreaking turn when officials informed them that the tickets they had were for the home end, meant for West Ham supporters only. The tickets were taken away, leaving Campbell inconsolable and locked out of the stadium.

Ben couldn’t believe what had happened and suspected that the tickets may have been sold for personal profit. As Campbell went to bed that night in tears, Ben tried his best to comfort him by reminding him of Liverpool’s anthem of strength and resilience: “though your dreams be tossed and blown at the end of the storm, there is a golden sky and you will never walk alone.”

The dad, Ben, had mistakenly purchased home match tickets meant for West Ham supporters

Luckily, their story reached the ears of a hidden hero, Dave Newton, the managing director of Cu-Plas Supplies in Wavertree. Moved by their story, Dave decided to give them tickets to another Liverpool match, this time against Everton. He hopes this gesture will help cheer Campbell up after his heartbreaking experience.

“I thought it was very sad,” Dave said, “and it’s nice to spread some happiness every now and again, especially in the times we are in.”

It’s important to note that there are certain rules and conditions for using home match tickets at West Ham. All ticket holders must be supporters of the home team, and for safety reasons, those who enter a section of the stadium designated for opposing supporters may be ejected.

Campbell and Ben’s experience serves as a reminder of the kindness and compassion that can be found even in the most disappointing situations. Thanks to the generosity of a stranger, Campbell’s dream of watching Liverpool play in person will soon become a reality.
