Lewis Alexander, a proud father of a U.S. Marine, wanted to honor his brave son’s service. He decided to put a sticker on his car, proudly proclaiming his role as a parent of a Marine. Little did he know that this innocent display of pride would attract hatred and cruelty.
One day, when Lewis returned to his car after shopping, he discovered a piece of paper on his windshield. Curious, he stopped to read the note. What he found left him in tears. An anonymous individual had written a message that said: “F**k you and your son. I hope he dies.”
Filled with shock and despair, Lewis immediately contacted the police. Although no crime was committed, the local sheriff’s office decided to share this heartbreaking incident on their Facebook page. In their post, they condemned the cruel note and expressed their appreciation for the military and their families.
“We can’t undo the message, and we almost hate to share it, but we decided we could use it as an opportunity to say thank you,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “To this man in Deltona, to anyone who’s served or is serving our country, and to all the families who sacrifice precious months and years with a loved one: THANK YOU.”
Lewis, deeply affected by the note, described the person who wrote it as “evil.” He couldn’t comprehend how someone could display such hatred towards a person serving their country. Struggling with his emotions, he called the sheriff’s department, finding solace in their decision to speak out and stand up for military families.
Lewis’s wife, Tami, shared that their son had chosen to serve in the military because he wanted to make a difference in the world. Despite the pain caused by the note, Lewis remained compassionate. He expressed that if he had the chance, he would leave a note on the perpetrator’s car saying, “God bless you.”
The sheriff’s office received an outpouring of support and gratitude from the community in response to their Facebook post. Many individuals expressed their appreciation for the sacrifices made by the troops and their families. One comment stood out, highlighting that while they may not support all of the country’s military engagements, they still respect and value those who defend their nation’s freedom.
Instances like these remind us of the challenges faced by military families and the resilience they exhibit in the face of adversity. While this note brought pain, it also sparked a wave of appreciation for the sacrifices made by servicemen and women and their loved ones.
Let us all be reminded to show respect and gratitude for our veterans and those currently serving. They deserve our thanks and support for their unwavering dedication to protecting our nation.
